Street Sweeper

 

este noul proiect al lui Tom Morello, chitaristul lui The Machine Rages On, aka. Rage Against The Machine împreună cu Boots Riley (dat fiind interviul de pe YouTube, nu e de mirare alăturarea celor doi, îmi aduc aminte de artwork-ul de la RATM, plin de simboluri de extremă stânga, de la Rigoberta Menchu până la Che, Riley face referire şi la proprietatea privată şi capitalism printre altele). Pe siteul proiectului puteti să ascultaţi o primă piesă. Din păcate, RATM este în cădere liberă, colectiv şi individual. Nu a mai rămas decât activismul politic.

Ei vor fi cea de a doua trupă (alături de Jane’s Addiction, reuniţi după mai mulţi ani) ce îi va însoţi pe Nine Inch Nails în turneul  lor, ultimul înainte de o pauză mai lungă.

Turneu de adio NIN

Trent Reznor s-a hotărât să ia vacanţă o perioadă şi plănuieste un turneu de încheiere pentru nişte ultimi ani absolut senzaţionali. Dar nu oricum. După cum spune şi el pe siteul oficial, turneul va fi împreuna cu Jane’s Addiction, o trupă pe nedrept uitată (iar cine îşi mai aduce aminte, o face doar pentru că Dave Navarro se încurcase cu Carmen Electra),

Nu ar fi cine ştie ce mare ştire, nu prea cred că suntem mulţi cei care vom da năvală la concertele din State, dar postul lui Trent merită citit în întregime.

 

Towards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane's Addiction. These performances essentially created and defined the term "alternative" rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I've had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the "next level" (whatever that means), but caused Jane's to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.
Fast forward to the present. Corporate rock STILL sucks. A friend tells me they saw the original Jane's lineup play a tiny show in LA that was unbelievable. I break out my Jane's records and am amazed by how vital they sound. These guys were the real deal and in this current climate mostly dominated by poseurs and pussies it was refreshing to hear something that sounded dangerous, volatile, beautiful and SINCERE.
Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we're in the studio experimenting. We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record LOTS of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become FRIENDS, we laugh again and we do some great things. I get to see first hand why they broke up all those years ago but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they're in the same room.
In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Are there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.
Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.

The internet is full of surprises these days.
I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our Lights in the Sky tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent.
If any of you could find a LINK to that footage I'll bet some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool.
Oh yeah, you didn't hear this from me.

După toate problemele pe care le aveau cu Guantanamo, the president elected dorind să închidă şandramaua, prizonierii îşi bat joc de sistemul juridic, acum închisorile militare primesc o nouă lovitură. Trent Raznor, alături de alţi muzicieni, vrea să dea în judecată armata americană pentru utilizarea melodiilor lor în timpul sedinţelor de tortură. Playlistul este cu adevărat impresionant, Queen, AC/DC, Pantera, Dr. Dre, dar tot nu înţeleg ce au avut cu Sesame Street?

Trent Reznor returns ... 1.6 million richer

Spre diferenta de Radiohead, Trent Reznor a dat publicitatii cateva din cifrele din jurul lansarii ultimului album Nine Inch Nails. 781,917 de unitati vandute si castiguri de 1.6 milioane in prima saptamana. Si asta dupa ce in primele trei zile se epuizasera pachetele deluxe. Asta nu l-a impiedicat sa puna sub semnul intrebarii originalitatea proiectului Radiohead. Oricum, articolul de pe CNET se termina cu o intrebare foarte interesanta. Rock-ul a fost intotdeauna considerat ca fiind un teren fertil pentru inovatie in industria muzicala. Mai putin in zilele noastre. De ce? Sper sa nu ramana o intrebare retorica.

iar pe album, mai pot fi ascultati, in afara de Trent Reznor, Adrian Belew [of David Bowie si King Crimson fame] Atticus Ross, Alessandro Cortini, Alan Moulder. Grafica ii apartine lui Rob Sheridan, un alt colaborator indelungat al lui Reznor.

In sfarsit. Dupa experienta mai putin reusita de anul trecut, Trent Raznor si Nine Inch Nails lanseaza un nou album, Ghosts I - IV, impresionant, macar prin volum. 36 de piese! Asta este un album pentru sfarsitul lumii. Prima piesa poti sa o primesti pe mail, gratuit, iar pentru inca 5$ poti sa descarci intreg albumul. Daca inca ai dubii, sau nu l-ai gasit pe oink, pentru ca nu mai exista site-ul, poti sa stai pe site si sa il asculti in intregime [bine, nu in intregime, ci doar 11 piese, care suna foarte bine, si nu o spun doar pentru fanii nine inch nails]. Pare-se ca Radiohead si cascadoria lor de marketing de anul trecut nu a ramas fara urmari.
